When NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Chris Bostick hit the wall at a high rate of speed in Seattle on July 20 his crew chief Tim Kulungian said computer data showed 5Gs of force upon impact.
This led to an emergency hospital visit in Sturgis, S.D. where doctors discovered Bostick was bleeding internally.

Bostick has provided the following update after being released from the hospital, “I’m incredibly grateful to share some good news with everyone who’s reached out over the past few days.
As many of you know, I was recently hospitalized for internal bleeding—something that came on unexpectedly while I was in Sturgis, South Dakota, visiting friends at the motorcycle rally. I was rushed to Monument Health Hospital where they discovered gastrointestinal bleeding. I flew back to Nashville and was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

The medical team at Vanderbilt placed me under close observation and ran a full series of tests. Eventually, they performed two separate procedures using the latest medical technology—scopes equipped to internally examine both my upper and lower GI tracts. The doctors located a small rupture that was slowly leaking and clotting over time, likely caused by trauma. They were able to flush everything out, stop the bleeding, and told me I could resume a normal diet within 24 hours and normal activity in seven days.
What really stood out to me was how thorough, efficient, and compassionate the entire Vanderbilt staff was. From the orderlies to the nurses to the surgeons, every person I encountered treated me with kindness and urgency. The care I received was truly world-class, and I can’t thank them enough.

It’s important to also recognize the NHRA Safety Safari team and the on-site NHRA medical staff at the Seattle race. After my high speed impact with the wall, they gave me a full evaluation at the track—not just checking on me, but also thoroughly inspecting my helmet and gear for signs of head trauma. Thanks to their diligence, I was cleared to continue racing safely. I truly believe their efforts played a big part in keeping me going until this issue eventually surfaced.

“The doctor told me this injury wouldn’t have shown up two weeks ago on any scan or bloodwork—even if I’d stayed overnight for observation after the crash in Seattle. It had to leak, clot, and escalate before it could be detected. It was just one of those hidden risks that racing can bring.”

Now that I’m back home and recovering, I want to take a moment to express something very personal…
🙏 Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who reached out. The outpouring of love and support from the racing community, my friends, fans, and even complete strangers has been overwhelming in the best possible way. I received messages, prayers, phone calls, and well-wishes from all over—and I want you to know I read every single one. Your kindness truly touched me. I feel incredibly blessed and humbled by the response, and I carry that with me as I heal.

I’m resting now, following doctor’s orders, and getting ready for what’s next… the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, August 29–September 1. I’ll be back—stronger, smarter, and more grateful than ever.”

Please join us in sending thoughts and prayers to Bostick for a speedy recovery.
