After the IHRA shutdown a lot of things changed in the world of drag racing so we head to Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville, MD to tell the tale of how this track was one that IHRA owner Darrell Cuttell said he was going to buy and we contrast what happened at Budds Creek to the news that IHRA Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA, 181 miles to the north would be shut down while the facility restructures.
We explain how the Maple Grove Shutdown is a major loss to fans who as of December of 2025 were expecting a NHRA National event in Reading in September. Maryland International Raceway went the opposite direction, straying from IHRA and the IHRA-owned WDRA and going to the NHRA, as it hosted its very first NHRA National event this past summer. It’s a tale of two tracks. We also talk about what can be done to save drag racing and keep it in the hands of people who are passionate about the sport.
