Western Motorcycle Drag Racing Association Names Race School Director

The Western Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (WMDRA) is pleased to welcome Mark E. Dotson as Race School Director at this year’s 3rd Annual AMSOIL Sturgis Nationals. A veteran motorcycle racer, Dotson began his drag racing career with an accidental ride to the Bean Blossom Boogie in 1981. He will manage all aspects of the WMDRA Race School operations at Sturgis, to educate new racers and grow racer membership.

An accomplished drag racer who has earned 16 land speed records, Dotson brings passion and commitment to his new role. “I’m excited to be working with the WMDRA to help deliver the ‘Race the Strip, Not the Street’ message during the Sturgis Rally.” He adds, “With my experience through racing with many sanctions, I want all our race school participants to have a fun day at the track and learn how to properly stage and launch their motorcycle and make smooth, consistent passes.”

“As an organization committed to safety and development of motorcycle drag racing, the WMDRA bears a responsibility to racers in our growing motor sport,” says WMDRA President Sandra Alberti. “We’re really excited to be working with Mark to formalize our training and licensing program, and educate new racers and motorcyclists in general.”

The WMDRA Race School introduces the first time Motorcycle Drag Racer to the sport, with instruction by a seasoned motorcycle drag racer. The first time racer will learn terminology, technical requirements, licensing requirements and race procedure in a safe and professional environment; the novice racer will graduate from the class with a “full timed pass” on a professional track.

The WMDRA Race School will take place on Tuesday, August 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sturgis Dragway, located at 20523 Hwy 79, just off Hwy 34 between the Full Throttle Saloon and Buffalo Chip Campground. Cost is $35 or free with paid entry in the Street E/T class. Riders must be fully capable of the safe operation of a motorcycle, and the motorcycle (tires, brakes) and safety gear (helmet, boots, and jacket) must pass a technical inspection before being allowed on the track.
