Bonnie Truett Double EngineThe Western Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (WMDRA) is excited to announce that drag racing legends Bonnie Truett, Pete Hill and Marion Owens have been named Grand Marshals of this year’s AMSOIL Sturgis Nationals set for August 5 and 6 at Sturgis Dragway during the 74th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The festivities coincide with Truett’s induction into the Sturgis Hall of Fame for his contributions to Harley-Davidson drag racing. All three racers, who have been named to numerous lists as some of motorcycle drag racing’s all-time greats, will greet the crowd, sign autographs, introduce number one qualifiers and call the bikes to the line, as the WMDRA presents their third annual AMSOIL Sturgis Nationals. The annual event at Sturgis Dragway will feature competition in four professional classes and six sportsman categories as the WMDRA celebrates horsepower and history.

According to WMDRA President Sandra Alberti, “These racers have shaped and grown the sport we enjoy today, and it is an honor and a pleasure to have them join us at the track to celebrate their accomplishments and thank them for their contributions.” Alberti added, “While we enjoy fierce competition at the event, having these legends of the sport on hand really embodies what Sturgis is all about… celebrating our sport, honoring the tradition of competition, and setting new milestones. It doesn’t get any better than this!”

With careers that have spanned nearly four decades, these gentlemen have earned championships across multiple sanctions, collected numerous national event wins and set nearly every record possible in the sport. It’s history in the making for such pioneers and innovators to meet at the track in 2014, and with the multitude of bikes on hand, vintage and modern, you just never know who you’ll see going down the track in Sturgis! (Hint, hint… you don’t want to miss this!)

Legends autograph session and Q&A will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, leading us to Opening Ceremonies and eliminations at 3:00 p.m.
