Stoffer Battles Back into Championship Contention

Heading into the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals from Reading, Pa., Aug. 14-17, Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Karen Stoffer had but one goal – get back into the top ten.  Stoffer entered the event ranked 11th in the PowerAde Point Series, just two races before only riders in the top ten will advance to championship countdown.

After qualifying tenth and scoring a pair of wins on Sunday Stoffer surpassed Hector Arana in the standings. Following the event she is ranked No. 10 and has a 12 point lead over No. 11 Arana with only one race to go until the cutoff for Championship Countdown. The final event is the illustrious US Nationals from Indianapolis, Ind., August 27th-Sept 1.

“We are thrilled to have this Geico Suzuki back into the hunt,” Stoffer said.  “The team feels really good.  We feel like all of our hard work is starting to pay off. My lights are improving and I am ready to be friends with the tree again.”

Stoffer says the challenge for the US Nationals is keeping the momentum up. If successful she will earn a berth into the Championship Countdown for the second consecutive season.

“We are proud of the ground we made up this weekend but as a team we understand that we need to continue to work very hard to stay in Countdown,” Stoffer said. “We want to go out there and win the race, but obviously if nothing else we need to stay ahead of Arana to have a chance at the championship.”

At The US Nationals Stoffer will also be participating in the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle for the second consecutive season. This special race is designated for eight Pro Stock Motorcycle racers, who have scored the most points in qualifying throughout the year.  The winner will receive $25,000 and the runner-up will take home $10,000.

Stoffer went on to extend special thanks to all of the 2008 sponsors and supporters.
