Scrappers Racing to Miss the Lucas Oil NHRA WinterNationals, Will Start 2020 Season in April

The start of the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is a little under two weeks away. As teams head to Las Vegas, Nevada for pre-season testing, Scrappers Racing remains in Brownsburg, Indiana preparing for a later start to their season. All three teams under the Scrappers Racing umbrella plan to debut at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals in Houston, Texas; April 17-19.

The decision to skip the first four races of the season didn’t happen without considerable discussion and planning from team owner Mike Salinas. As a self-funded program, there is a constant balance between running his business in San Jose and traveling to races on the NHRA circuit. The beginning of 2020 brought business commitments for Salinas and he is determined to fulfill those obligations before heading out for a busy eight month racing schedule.
Jasmine Salinas and Jianna Salinas, running Top Alcohol Dragster and Pro Stock Motorcycle respectfully, would have started the season in Gainesville, Florida at the Gatornationals in March. The Salinas’ work as a family, travel as a family, and race as a family; they will come in full force together at the SpringNationals.

Jianna Salinas

Jasmine will be running her Top Alcohol Dragster in Division III this season, participating in all Regional events and National events available for TAD entries. Jianna will also run the full schedule of remaining races in PSM.
“Going to the races with my family is fun, we had some success in 2019 and look forward to big things in 2020 but as a business man I need to take care of things in San Jose before we get swept up in the racing,” Salinas stated. He added, “It takes a clear mind to step into those cars and race so we’re going to get our business and race teams in order, then come out strong together.”

Salinas knows the first few races are critical to a race team in order to get back in a routine at the track and work out the kinks of new parts. The Scrappers Racing Top Fuel dragster will be looking to test before Houston, but those details are yet to be determined.

“We thank our wonderful fans for their support and understanding of why we made this decision. Scrappers Racing will be out there this year and we are excited to put on an awesome show for everyone,” added Salinas.
