In the XDA 1 Stop Speed 4.60 Index class, contested over the eighth-mile, every thousandth of a second matters. With a 4.60-second index, there is virtually no margin for error – run under the number or leave the starting line too soon, and your race weekend can end in an instant.
At the XDA Bike Fest at Maryland International Raceway, the multi-time champ again showed why many revere him as the best.
Ronald Procopio of Wake Forest, North Carolina, wasted no time establishing himself as the driver to beat. He posted a perfect 4.600-second pass in qualifying to claim the No. 1 spot, hitting the index dead-on without a thousandth to spare. The defending class champion every year since 2020 looked every bit the favorite from the opening round.
Season points leader Gary Clontz of Mechanicsville, Maryland, entered the event with momentum, but his title hopes were cut short in the second round by Alan Fields. Fields’ run ended in the next round when he broke out against Boo Brown, sending Brown into the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Procopio continued carving through the ladder, eliminating Kevin White in the third round before defeating Tyler Cammock in the semifinals to earn a place in the final.
The championship came down to Procopio and Brown, and the outcome was decided on the starting line. Brown’s 2000 Suzuki was the faster motorcycle on the track, recording a 4.612-second pass at 152.85 mph. Procopio, however, gained the advantage with a stellar .024 reaction time compared to Brown’s .050. That .026-second holeshot proved to be the difference, as Procopio crossed the finish line with a 4.628 at 147.09 mph to secure the victory on total elapsed time.
With the win, Ronald Procopio once again claimed the 1 Stop Speed 4.60 Index class championship, continuing a remarkable run of dominance that has now stretched back to 2020.
