On October 11, James Rogers, son of longtime motorcycle drag racer Jay Rogers, was life flighted to the University of Iowa burn ward after being involved in a serious burn accident and is currently in a medically induced coma, but is in stable condition. He will have a long road to recovery to get back to what will eventually become his new normal and he will need our support more than ever.
On Facebook his father posted – We wanted to give you a bit of an update regarding Jimmy and ask that you continue to share these posts along with a story of how you have come to know Jimmy. Your stories have given us great comfort in these past days.
Jimmy is still in critical condition and in a medially induced coma. He has already had a number of surgeries to help treat the wounds from the accident that brought us here today. Many people have asked questions concerning the how’s and why’s of that day and we honestly do not know what happened. Jimmy was home, working alone. Thankfully, our neighbors, Dusty and Liz, heard Jimmy and rushed to his aid and called 911. If it had not been for their quick actions, we may have found ourselves in a very different situation.
Jimmy is under the care of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics burn team. Their level of commitment and drive to take care of the families that they serve is incredible. To say that we are grateful to them, does not fully encompass the situation.
The road ahead will be long and filled with changes in direction, but one that we will navigate together. The outpouring of support from friends, family, and kind folks that we have never met, has been amazing. You have all made a tough situation, a little bit easier on all of us. As I have said before, in trying times, it is helpful to have others to help mitigate and share our sorrow. This sharing helps to lessen the burden and makes it a bit easier to travel this path.
We have tried to teach our children that it is not our circumstances that define us, it is how we react to our circumstances that makes us who we are. I have no doubt in my mind, that in the coming weeks, as a team, we will further the definition of our own characters as good, kind, and compassionate people.
