One of the most versatile racing drivers and multi‑sport athletes in the United States has reached another major milestone: Jorge Mendoza has been officially approved by the SRO Motorsports licensing organization to compete in the upcoming Arlington Grand Prix, racing through the streets surrounding the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in the Toyota GR Cup sedan class.

Throughout his motorsports career, Jorge has earned competition licenses from IKF, WKA, SCCA Pro Racing, IMSA, FIA, NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles, IDBA, IHRA, and the ASA–NASCAR Whelen Texas Truck Series, among others. Adding the SRO license to this extensive list is a point of pride for Jorge, especially with such an exciting event just around the corner.

Jorge made his auto‑racing debut at the San Antonio Grand Prix, finishing 3rd in the IMSA Pro Stock Sedan Class in 1987 while studying Economics at St. Mary’s University. At the same time, he played varsity soccer for St. Mary’s and competed in karate tournaments across Texas. He stepped away from karting in 1986 to focus on his education, demonstrating the discipline that would later define his racing career.

Jorge has always been passionate about street‑racing circuits. Despite limited testing time in his early IMSA races, he quickly adapted to the challenges of tight street courses lined with unforgiving walls. In 1988, he earned a Top‑Ten finish in San Antonio during his first Formula‑car event, competing against seasoned drivers from the Barber Saab Series.

Financial limitations often meant Jorge had to adapt to new cars with minimal practice, as sponsorships typically covered only race‑weekend expenses. However, when he transitioned to motorcycle drag racing, the story changed. With more testing opportunities and stronger financial backing—first in San Antonio and later in Mexico—Jorge achieved what many thought impossible. Despite never riding motorcycles as a youngster and initially being afraid of them, he became the quickest motorcycle racer in Mexico and the first Latino in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles to reach 60 mph in one second. He also became the first IMSA auto‑racing driver to compete in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycles in 1998.
Today, Jorge remains a passionate and dedicated racing driver. He is actively seeking sponsors to compete in the Toyota GR Cup at the Arlington Grand Prix on March 13–15, 2026.

Jorge’s connection to Texas motorsports runs deep. He was in the grandstands in 1984 watching the Formula 1 race in Dallas, a moment that helped shape his lifelong passion for racing. Now, he proudly represents both Texas and the Latino community on the motorsports stage.
