Six-time Australian Top Fuel Motorcycle Champion and his Nitro Voodoo Team scored at the Gulf Western Oil Nitro
Thunder Championship round at Sydney Dragway on Saturday May 8th.
Matheson was testing modifications he had made to his machine in anticipation of the upcoming Winternationals at Willowbank in early June.
“We had good intentions to test in the lead up to this race but wet weather and Covid impacts restricted our efforts,” Matheson said.
Qualifying was washed out on Friday, however the weather was magnificent on Saturday. The track upgrades and overall improvements at Sydney Dragway were a showcase of drag racing in Australia. A large crowd not seen for a long time were entertained with great drag racing and Carl Cox, global DJ, had everyone rocking at night.
“We had three runs come race day and did not lay down a representative pass as the bike was steering right into the wall. We tried changes but without improvement,” Matheson said.
It was the same result in the final with North Queensland racer, John Zahra.
“We both got off to a good start but I got out of it when it got out of shape,” Matheson said.
“We congratulate John and his Team and I must thank my Team. The guys really worked all weekend to get the win
and luck was on our side,” Matheson said.
