Arana, the No. 3 qualifier in Pro Stock Motorcycle, went red in his match with Eddie Krawiec, handing the round victory to the defending class champion.
“I just messed up,” Arana said. “There’s really not much else to say. I will learn from this and we’ll move on.”
Arana is fourth in the Pro Stock Motorcycle points standings, with positions two through five separated by 16 points.
“We will just keep fighting the rest of the year,” Arana Sr. said. “We have had a good season, and we want to end it well. Overall we had a good weekend, all qualifying in the top half, but we want to win. I want to win, Hector Jr. wants to win, Adam wants to win. When we don’t, we’re not happy.”
Arana and son Hector Jr. each raced to the second round at Maple Grove, but son Adam lost to Krawiec in the first round.
Arana, the 2009 Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, got to round two with a defeat of Joe DeSantis in the opening round. DeSantis, the No. 15 qualifier, left .050-second too soon to give Arana the immediate victory.
Arana still made a full pull with a pass of 6.909 seconds at 193.88 mph that was the fifth-quickest of the session.
“The run was pretty good but it wasn’t perfect,” Arana said. “We worked on the tune-up for the next run, but we didn’t get to show it. I know what happened, and like I said, we’ll be ready for the next time.”
Arana was one of three riders to red-light in the second round.
