Americus Motorsports Complex Completes Topography Fieldwork

Star Racing and the Americus Motorsports Complex (AMC) team announced today that the fieldwork is complete for the topography mapping of the land on South Georgia Tech Parkway. This welcome news marks a significant milestone in the project as local, national and international supporters continue to inquire about the progress of the complex.

The topography fieldwork, which began in early January, was officially completed on March 13 and will require about two weeks to complete the office portion of the mapping. The topography survey is an important and necessary step in the preliminary planning stages since it is needed for the overall construction process.

With the topography fieldwork complete, Allen Rigdon and Patrick Davies of Soil Environmental Specialist (Soil and Wetland Scientists) will now delineate the wetlands on site. Once the delineation is complete, Langford & Associates Inc., a firm consisting of registered land surveyors, will survey the wetland boundaries and prepare the maps required for the Jurisdictional Determination by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). All of the data and maps will be compiled into a report to be submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in Albany, Ga., for their approval. Soil Environmental Specialist should have the wetland report ready for submission within the next couple of weeks.

Depending on how busy the USACE is, this entire wetlands determination phase may be completed in as little as 45 days, but could take longer since there is no official time table on the jurisdictional determination. During this ongoing process, the Americus Motorsports Complex team continues to prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony that is tentatively planned for sometime in the middle of this year.

Since the February 9, 2011, announcement of the Americus Motorsports Complex, the Star Racing team has been working tirelessly on the lengthy planning and approval process required for such a large facility. After more than 30 years in the motorcycle drag racing industry, Star Racing owners George and Jackie Bryce are utilizing their own experiences and the knowledge of others in the industry to ensure that this motorsports complex is a world class facility with as few hurdles as possible during the planning and construction phases.

This facility, which will be located on 450 acres across from South Georgia Technical College, will focus on both automobile and motorcycle racing and will include a dragstrip, road race course, training centers, business technology park, amphitheater and autominiums.
