The Summer Nationals brought three days of thrilling motorcycle drag racing to Santa Pod Raceway, featuring fiercely contested eliminations, breakout performances, and commanding victories across the championship classes. While mechanical issues forced some of Europe’s fastest machines out of contention, others seized the opportunity to claim significant wins at one of the season’s premier events.
With just four bikes in the field, Top Fuel Bike quickly turned into a contest of attrition as both top qualifiers were eliminated before the final.
Neil Midgley topped qualifying with a standout 6.112-second run, while Rene van den Berg secured the No. 2 spot with a 6.351. Both riders, however, suffered mechanical failures in the opening round, ending their title hopes before they could capitalize on their pace.
That cleared the path for fourth qualifier Phil Crossley, who advanced after Midgley was sidelined before making a pass. Crossley seized the opportunity in the final, laying down a winning 6.3542-second run at 224.74 mph. Jiri Lukes encountered problems of his own, slowing to an 11.7622-second pass at 68.68 mph, handing Crossley the event victory.
