NHRA’s Indianapolis Raceway Park Getting Major Upgrade

Indianapolis Raceway Tower

The home of drag racing’s most illustrious event, the U.S. Nationals, Lucas Oil Raceway near Indianapolis, Ind. will see some upgrades for the 2024 season including a new timing tower.

Demolition of the tower that has stood on the right side of the famous drag strip since 1983 began just after the new year started.

The “(Wally) Parks Tower” was built four years after NHRA purchased the entire facility in 1979.

The raceway began in 1958 and was built on a 267-acre farm.

NHRA’s annual “Big Go” is slated for its traditional  Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 28-Sept. 2, for the 70th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals.
