Jasmine Salinas Scores First Win in Top Alcohol Dragster During Split-Race Weekend for Scrappers Racing

Jasmine Salinas entered and won the Lucas Oil Series Division 3 Regional Event in Columbus while the Scrappers Racing Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle teams competed in the Camping World Series Mile-High Nationals in Denver, Colorado.

Jasmine celebrated her first win Sunday at National Trail Raceway with her team and her family was cheering her on all weekend from Bandimere Speedway. Because she races on the Lucas Oil Series circuit, Jasmine attends Regional Events in the Midwest to compete for the Division 3 Championship. These races occasionally fall on the same weekend that her father Mike Salinas and sister Jianna Salinas are competing at National Events.

Jasmine summed up her day, “everyone’s first win is always special, but this one means a little more to our team. This win represents all the hard work, passion, and dedication that our team has put in the past few months. We have all had to overcome a lot since Gainesville, but it only motivated us to come back stronger and hungrier as a team. Even though my family was not physically there with me this weekend, I know they were still watching and cheering us on. This just means we all get to celebrate with ice cream once I’m back home next week.”

In the final round, Jasmine faced Rich McPhillips Jr. “It was really special to get my first win running against Richie. I would not have had it any other way. Pops (Rich Sr.) had his two cars in the final round so I think that made for a special birthday present to him,” Jasmine commented about racing against the McPhillips’ family car. “Thank you to Pops, Richie, Tex and Chris.”

In Denver, Mike qualified third in Top Fuel. He raced Buddy Hull in the first round and pulled off the win with seven cylinders firing. In the second round, Mike defeated Greg Carrillo in a close race. Mike eventually fell short to Steve Torrence in the semi finals in another close contest, 3.854 to Torrence’s 3.843. With two round wins today, Mike moves into 6th place in points for the NHRA Camping World Championship.

Jianna qualified fourteenth in Pro Stock Motorcycle and teammate Jimmy Underdahl qualified thirteenth. Both riders fell short in the first round of eliminations.

Next weekend, Scrappers Racing will race at Sonoma Raceway which is the home track of the Salinas family. Jasmine will travel to the Bay Area to celebrate her first win with family and cheer on the Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle teams during the NHRA Sonoma Nationals.
