Yes it’s true, a few dozen racers showed up early the SGMP to test early for the Mickey Thompson, MoTech World Finals at Valdosta.

A cold front came in early in the afternoon and by sundown temps were dropping fast. Before morning, temps of close to 36 degrees are predicted! Just after sundown, a few sprinkles were falling but no real rain hit the track or pit area between 6 and 9pm.

Layers of clothing became the dress code tonight in the pits as grills lit up for an evening of grill’n & chill’n.

Larry McBride and company did a short burst to check out the new clutch configuration and Team DAS from Danvers, Massachusetts, began testing their new Pro Street bike. What kind of numbers were run today, well no one’s talking so we’ll have to wait for round one qualifying Friday evening to find out. For tonight, we’ll let the photos tell the tale of what’s happening in Valdosta, GA.

The DAS Pro Street bike made more than one test pass thursday. According to Eric Paquette the owner of DAS Performance, today’s performance was/is classified.

Top Fuel pilot Ron Webb of the Fire & Ice team checks in with his old buddy Larry McBride as Larry’s team takes care of Ol’ Blue.

Johnny Vickers Kenworth rig has some fancy dashboard adornments: the smaller Wally is for his recent win at the NHRA Las Vegas race. The larger trophy is the championship award for winning the NHRA Pro Fuel class in the NHRA Harley Davidson Drag Racing Series.

There’s more than one famous pit bike here at Valdosta. This one’s been around a while and still sports it’s true colors and yes, Ron Webb still tools around the pit area on it.

Pro Open racer Rob Giard and his wife Sue finish up grilling some chicken for dinner by flash light. Team work is everything in drag racing, even in making dinner.
